Jean looked around the family room and felt utterly discouraged by the complete mess that confronted her. Is Fatigue a Daily Occurrence?

If you struggle out of bed after two hours sleep, a night of partying and overeating, you will naturally feel tired and drag through the day. But if you go to bed at a reasonable hour and still wake up tired, you could have an underlying health problem. You may be able to solve this with a lifestyle change or you may need to seek medical help.

Some people have sleep apnea. Loud snoring indicates a high possibility of sleep apnea. This is particularly true if you also have morning headaches and high blood pressure. People with sleep apnea actually stop breathing for very short periods of time during their sleep. These pauses in breathing may occur frequently. The result is chronic fatigue and lessened ability to function during the day. If you have this combination of symptoms, you should see your doctor.

Fatigue can also be the result of a vitamin deficiency. Many people, particularly women, do not get enough B complex vitamins and vitamin C. A vitamin C supplement of 500 mg. together with 7 mg. of vitamin B5 and 100 mg of vitamin B6 can boost your energy and eliminate fatigue. Of course, you should check with your doctor before adding a new supplement to your diet.

Another problem could be lack of water or an improper drinking pattern. Remember, when you feel thirsty, your body is already dehydrated. You need to drink water throughout the day to ensure you do not become thirsty.

Fatigue can be a side effect of medications. Some drugs that are prescribed to lower cholesterol interfere with the formation of coenzyme Q-10. Your body needs CoQ-10 to convert the foods you eat into cellular energy. So if you are taking these medicines, and you’re fatigued, check with your doctor about either changing medications or adding a CoQ-10 supplement.

When is Fatigue a Problem?

Today we tend to live life at a faster pace than our ancestors did. This killer pace is often accompanied by tiredness. Sometimes the fatigue lasts for more than two weeks and maybe longer.

There are many reasons for fatigue such as overwork, too many personal demands, the inability to say no, the inability to manage one’s time efficiently, and the stress that accompanies all of these. However fatigue can be a symptom of a more serious health problem that requires medical attention.

Some health problems, which cause fatigue, are:

depression, diabetes, hepatitis, iron-deficiency anemia, thyroid disease and sleep deprivation.

Depression is often mis-diagnosed. Also, people often try to hide or deny depression due to shame. Depression is characterized by a feeling of hopelessness, the inability to follow your usual routine, being hyperemotional, tired upon awakening and overwhelmed by tiredness. Depression may be caused by grief, relationship problems, financial problems or many other problems. People with symptoms of depression should not hesitate to seek medical help, as there are many medications available.

Fatigue is a red flag for diabetes but is also accompanied by other symptoms such as more frequent urination, thirst and changes in vision. Physicians can detect diabetes through a blood sugar test. Glucose levels are normal between 70 and 120 mg of glucose per 100 ml of blood. Glucose levels in excess of 300 indicate extreme risk. Although fourteen million Americans have Type II diabetes, fifty percent of them are not aware of this.

Hepatitis also causes fatigue. It is accompanied by loss of appetite, aching muscles and joints, and fever. Hepatitis is often mistaken for flu and while the other symptoms disappear, the fatigue continues.

Iron-deficiency anemia patients are usually pale and often report a craving to chew on ice. Iron-deficiency anemia is easily diagnosed by a simple blood test and easily cured by ingesting daily iron supplements. Iron-deficiency anemia is far more common in women than in men due to the female menstrual cycle.

Sleep deprivation often occurs in people who work rotating shifts. Our bodies have a circadian rhythm with certain times the best for certain activities. Sleep time between 9:00 PM and 9:00 AM is most advantageous for most people. The body needs sleep and will be less efficient if denied proper sleep.

The thyroid gland regulates the body’s metabolic system and muscle strength. If the thyroid produces too little hormone, a person has hypothyroidism. Too much hormone production results in hyperthyroidism. Hypothyroidism is the most common of the two and many people are unaware that they have it. Women, especially those over forty years of age, are much more likely to have hypothyroidism than men. A blood test which measures thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) will immediately identify thyroid problems even if no symptoms are present.

Sleep deprivation, particularly if due to rotating shifts, can often be solved by installing room darkening drapes, reducing noise factors, and arranging for at least seven hours of sleep.

The other medical problems require testing and diagnosis by a health care provider. All are curable by medication.

MS Fatigue and Crackberries

A new Vlog that talks about MS and hypothyroid fatigue and my unnatural addiction to my Blackberry (Crackberry). I take 100 mgs of Provigil for my fatigue and recently had a sleep study that showed an alpha wave sleep disorder. I’m learning more about that as I go.

A HOMEOPATHIC APPROACH TO THYROID PROBLEMS

Much has been written by homeopaths about not treating symptoms; rather we look to the causal chain.  So it is with the thyroid; we would look at the thyroid’s function in conjunction with the ovaries or testes and pituitary gland – the endocrine system as a whole.  An imbalance in the endocrine system also requires an evaluation of the pancreas, liver and adrenal functions.  It is then we can begin to improve:

Lynne McTaggart in her book “What Doctors Don’t Tell You” highlights the link between ME and vaccines, whilst Michael Murray and Joseph Pizzorono in their book “Encyclopaedia of Natural Medicine” point out that research has identified the Epstein-Barr virus as a leading cause of CFS.  This member of the Herpes group is a precursor to Glandular Fever.

Each of us experiences our own variety of symptoms, which requires an individual evaluation of each patient’s condition.  Dr Reinhold Voll has developed a technique for screening the body and its organs to identify areas of inflammation or degeneration, known as Electro Acupuncture according to Voll (EAV).
Each patient is treated as an individual in order to identify their own complex of toxins and pathogens.  This model of healing addresses detoxifying at a cellular level, specifically for pathogens and organ systems.

About Reinhold Voll:

The birth of EAV came about when Voll confirmed what Traditional Chinese Medcine (TCM)  had been practicing for over 2000 years.
 He maped the meridian lines used by TCM as each acupuncture point is detectable by a change of skin resistance.
The acupuncturists use these meridians or flow systems to evaluate the health of the corresponding organ.

Colon Health And Fatigue

Fatigue is one of the commonest symptoms reported to the doctor. However, the tools the doctor has at his/her disposal to treat fatigue are very limited. Alternative medicine is usually much better placed to treat fatigue successfully – and the colon is often involved.

First of all, the doctor should be consulted if you are fatigued – just to eliminate possible causes, the main medical reason being low thyroid function.

If this has been excluded along with any other causes the doctor may discover, then it is time to consider the commonest cause of fatigue found by alternative practitioners; an excess of toxins in the body. This type of fatigue is usually worse as the progresses. It is often indicated by dropping of on the sofa in the at 9pm or so.

Why Do Toxins Cause Tiredness?
Toxins are simply waste products from cell metabolism which, in excess, can clog up the tissues. They tend to settle where the tissues are weak. For example, if we have inherited a weakness in certain organs, or if we have weakened areas because of old injuries, it is harder for the body to ‘flush’ out these toxin deposits so they tend to accumulate in weak areas, and grow. In time, these toxin deposits start to reduce the body’s efficiency, and tiredness and fatigue are common results.

Another way to look at this is to imagine that you have inherited a slight weak liver, kidney and heart; imagine they are operating at 90% of their power. Generally you will see no symptoms at this stage – because the weakness is too small. Over time, however, toxins accumulate in the already weakened areas, reducing them to 80% efficiency. In time, they get down to 70% – this might take many years. At this time the toxin load of the body as a whole will have increased markedly because of the reduced function of these organs and general tiredness and fatigue can easily set in. The doctor cannot diagnose anything because no specific illness is present.

The Answer To Fatigue
The answer to this common type of fatigue is to DETOX thoroughly. When general tiredness and fatigue is present, detoxing works well more often that it doesn’t; but the good thing is that if by any chance it doesn’t work well for you, detoxing can only help anyway. (If it does not work for you, do see an alternative practitioner as soon as possible to help you to diagnose what is going on.)

How To Detox
The most effective way to detox is first to undertake a colon cleansing programme of some sort. This can be done at home. It usually consists of a herbal formula to get the bowel working well; this is often the most important part of detox. The best known formula for this purpose is Dr Christopher’s cascara based formula. This also includes 6 or so other herbs, including barberry, ginger and cayenne pepper. This formula is so well known because it works brilliantly for most people.

When using this formula, the main aim for most people is to get to the point where you have as many bowel movements a day as meals eaten. If this is not happening for you – then when you do achieve this with the help of the herbal formula, there is a good chance that this will be the start of your improving energy.

Often combined with this formula in a complete ‘colon cleansing programme’ are:
* Some natural, lubricating fibre – often psyllium husks
* Some ‘friendly’ bowel flora – essential for good bowel function

Results Can Be Felt Within Weeks

Patients have often reported tiredness starting to lift within a week of starting this treatment; more commonly it is within a few weeks. The herbal formula is continued daily until your body can maintain 3 or so bowel movements a day by itself. For most people this takes about 6-9 months. If you have had long term constipation it may take longer.

Once again, if this does not work for you within 6 weeks, there is something going on apart from underlying toxin accumulation; consult with trusted alternative practitioners to help identify the cause for you. (And – I assume you will already have consulted your doctor.)
